The Royal College of Music (RCM) was the venue of choice for the recent 50th International Conductors Guild Conference. The event was held in the stunning Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall, showcasing one of RCM’s exceptional spaces perfect for conferences, performances, and workshops.
The three-day conference brought together conductors from around the globe to celebrate the art of conducting. Highlights included RCM professor and film composer Mike Ladouceur interviewing with acclaimed composer and conductor Debbie Wiseman, and a session with distinguished cellist, conductor and RCM alumnus, Julian Lloyd Webber. Mark Wigglesworth, Chief Conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, joined RCM Head of Conducting Toby Purser for a thought-provoking discussion titled ‘The Silent Musician – Why Conducting Matters’.
Benefitting from integrated PA and AV support, the conference set up utilised the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall’s flexible space, with half theatre style seating creating a dedicated exhibition and refreshment area, facilitating networking opportunities and fostering greater collaboration in a focused environment.
Toby Purser, RCM Head of Conducting, commented: ‘I was so proud to see the RCM hosting the global conducting community in partnership with one of the most important organisations for conductors in their special 50th anniversary year. Our own staff and students shone and were able to be part of a rich exchange of ideas and insights between conductors of all ages, backgrounds and experiences.’
For larger conferences, we recommend combining the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall with the Britten Theatre, providing a dedicated auditorium for presentations and seminars with the full space within the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall providing a dedicated, flexible and spacious exhibition and networking area.
The RCM is ideally situated in the heart of Albertopolis, London’s renowned cultural district within walking distance of world-class institutes such as the Royal Albert Hall, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Science Museum. With excellent transport links and a vibrant cultural atmosphere, the RCM offers both convenience and a prestigious backdrop, ensuring an enriching experience for all attendees.
